The FEA’s major assets include the Hydro Electric Power Station at Wailoa & dam at Monasavu which generates about 80MW and thermal power stations at Kinoya & Vuda. The other major asset is the Wind Power Station at Butoni. There are smaller thermal units at Sigatoka, Nadi, Rakiraki, Korovou, Labasa, Savusavu, and Levuka. The FEA’s prominent transmission and distribution assets include over 140 route km of 132 kV transmission lines; about 8,300 route km of medium voltage & low voltage distribution lines and over 70,000 poles; and 4,200 distribution substations (pole & ground mounted) with over 50 power transformers. Other important assets include the information technology and telecommunications (ICT) equipment including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, metering assets – substation as well consumer metering, office equipment including furniture, air conditioning, vehicles and property and easements owned for the purpose of building, maintaining and operating the power system. The major addition to its renewable capacity is the Nadarivatu Hydro Project which will bring in additional capacity of 40 MW. This is going to be online by August 2011 which will bring the nation great savings in fossil fuel costs.
