ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION INSPECTOR (CENTRAL)

The position will be based at the Authority’s Head Office in Suva and will report to the Installation Inspection Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
- Replace electricity meters and associated metering equipment as and when required
- Supervise, install, connect and check consumer service mains and fuses
- Issue defect reports where necessary to the electrical contractor concerned
- Disconnect defective or illegal electrical installations in line with Electricity Act
- Liaise and advice contractors on consumers installations
- Carry out necessary electrical tests on installations (industrial, commercial & domestic)to ensure Standards Compliance prior to connection
- Prepare regular and special reports (typed) and submit as and when required
- Investigate and report all instances of illegal electrical installations to his designated officer
- Thorough understanding of Electricity Act, and AS/NZS Wiring rules and standards to interpret to customers and electrical contractors as and when required
- Responsible in keeping abreast with all changes and revisions in relevant electrical regulations AS/NZ standards and wiring rules
- Provide guidance, training & assessment of apprentices, trainees and electricians under his control
- Attending to customer faults within satisfactory response time & provide timely feedback
- Isolation and connection of customer service mains
- Calculation of maximum demand
- Ensure materials and equipment are readily available for daily inspections works
- Ensure safety compliance and risk mitigation during all activities and tasks
- Provide clarifications and advice to customers
- Drive Authority vehicles in line with Fleet Manual Policies & procedures
- Carry out load balancing as and when required to ensure efficient performance of Network Distribution Transformers
- Carry out any other duties as assigned by functional superiors and provide timely feedback
- Assist other SBAs where relevant as & when required
Key Requirements
- The candidate must have a Certificate IV/Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institute with at least three years of relevant industry experience;
- Successful completion of apprenticeship in Electrical Fitter and Mechanic;
- A valid Wireman’s license and a valid Group two (not provisional) driver’s license is mandatory.
